WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange sentenced to 50 weeks in prison

Julian Assange, the founder of has been sentenced to 50 weeks in prison by a court in London for absconding while on bail, when he fled to the Ecuadorian embassy in London in 2012.

His sentencing comes a day before an extradition hearing in London related to separate charges in the United States of conspiring to hack a government password.

A judge at an earlier hearing said Julian Assange’s offense merits the maximum sentence.

He faces a separate court hearing on Thursday over a US extradition request on charges of conspiring to break into a Pentagon computer system.
