As massive fire engulfed a commercial complex in Surat on Friday, the lives of 19 teenage students were taken away at the coaching centre, who leaped and fell to death while some other students suffocated to death. Serious injuries were also reported.
The TV channels also showed horrific scenes of the building in Takshasila complex of Sarthana area as students tried rescuing themselves by leaping out of the windows.
Gujarat minister of state for health Kishor Kanani told that students have lost their lives either due to jumping from the building or suffocation when massive fire engulfed the commercial complex.
Deputy Chief Minister of the state Nitin Patel told that a detailed enquiry has been ordered and that anyone found responsible for the incident are not going to be spared. Prime Minister Narendra Modi told that he was extremely anguished by the fire incident in Gujarat that happens to be his home state.
Narendra Modi tweeted that his thoughts are with the bereived families and hoped for the quick recovery of the injured. The Prime Minister also added that he has asked government of Gujarat and local authorities for providing all possible assistance to the affected families.
