Sri Lanka’s IGP resigns over Easter bomb attacks

President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena told on Friday that the top police official of Sri Lanka, inspector general of Police Pujith Jayasundara has resigned over failures that resulted in the deadly Easter bomb attacks in Sri Lanka. The president informed the media that the inspector general of Police resigned and has sent his resignation to the acting defence Secretary and that the president is going to nominate a new inspector general soon.

The nominee of the president of Sri Lanka has to be confirmed by a constitutional council. This resignation from the inspector general of Police comes after the resignation of the top defence Minister official of Sri Lanka, defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando, who submitted his resignation on Thursday.
