Sabarimala temple closes after pujas

The Sabarimala temple, after a week-long Kumbamaasa puja, closed on Sunday. The sanctum was closed by 10 pm after regular pujas. The temple will reopen for 10-days festival in March second week.

Melsanthi (chief priest) V.N.Vasudevan Namboodiri shut the doors of the temple in the presence of Tantri Kandararu Rajeevararu. On Sunday, ‘Sahasrakalasham’ was held in the noon.

Though police were stationed in and around the Sabarimala temple fearing protests, no untoward incident was recorded. Two Andhra women were sent back by demonstrators peacefully when they tried to hike to the temple along with a pilgrimage group.

This period got over with no limitations for believers notwithstanding the police asking the district administration to impose section 144 of CrPC.
