Oxford dictionary inserts itself into an Indian political debate

The Oxford Dictionary stepped into an Indian political controversy on Friday after President of Congress Party Rahul Gandhi tweeted that there was a new word “Modilie” in the English language, targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “modifying the truth constantly”.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, the Congress chief shared a photoshopped screenshot of a dictionary website, he said that there is a new word in the English Dictionary. Oxford Dictionary replied to Rahul Gandhi’s tweet and said the image Mr.Gandhi shared does not exist and called it fake.

He also doubled down on the campaign and tweeted the link to a website that, he said, catalogues the best Modilies with PM Modi’s picture.
