Supreme court of Pakistan granted bail on Tuesday to the jailed former Prime Minister of the country Nawaz Sharif for 6 weeks to seek medical treatment within Pakistan. 69-year-old Nawaz Sharif is lodged in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail since December 2018 and is serving a seven year imprisonment in the Al Azizia graft case.
Nawaz Sharif filed an appeal earlier against Islamabad High Court’s judgement that rejected his bail on February 25th in the same case on medical grounds. A three-membered bench of the supreme court of Pakistan headed by Chief justice Asif Saeed Khosa granted bail in a short order to Nawaz Sharif for 6 weeks for seeking medical treatment.
According to the information received from the daughter of Nawaz Sharif Maryam Nawaz, the former prime minister has suffered 4 angina attacks in recent days. Nawaz Sharif’s family also complained that the government of Pakistan led by Prime Minister Imran Khan was not providing adequate treatment to Nawaz Sharif who has serious health issues. After completing the time period, Nawaz Sharif needs to surrender himself and will be allowed to seek treatment from doctor of his own choice.
