Moong dal Shorba recipe

This traditional North Indian recipe is a delicious dish that can act as a main course as well as an appetizer. This gluten-free nutritious dish can be easily prepared and has the capacity to tickle your taste buds.


Moong dal: 50 gms

Onion: 20 grams

Ginger: 1/4 teaspoon

Garlic: 1/4 teaspoon

Cumin seeds: 1/4 teaspoon

Lemon juice: 1/2 teaspoon

Butter: 1 tablespoon

Turmeric: 1/4 teaspoon

Salt- as per taste

Water: according to the requirement

Mint leaves: 1 teaspoon

Coriander leaves: 1 teaspoon


Add onions to heated butter in a pan and add chopped garlic, green chillies, salt, turmeric powder and Ginger after 30 seconds of sauteing.

Add moong dal and give the mixture a stir followed by the addition of three cups of water and bring it to a boil. Let it simmer for 15 minutes for the dal to become soft and blend the mixture.

Add cumin seats to heated butter in a pan followed by pureed dal. Add lemon juice to finish. Garnish the dish with fresh coriander and mint leaves and serve it hot.
