Jammu and Kashmir votes in a ​large number

Since Jammu and Baramulla are going to polls in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, people of Jammu and Kashmir are coming out in large numbers for using their franchise. Approximately 13 lakh voters are going to cast their vote and decide the fate of 9 candidates from Baramulla constituency which includes 15 assembly segments including Bandipora, Puri and Kupwara.

As the voting procedure began at 7 o’clock in the morning under tight security, voters came out in large numbers and stood in queues outside the polling booths. Extra barricades and checkpoints have been erected at various places in North Kashmir and foolproof security arrangements have been made for ensuring smooth polling. In the last year’s Lok Sabha elections, Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party and Bharatiya Janata Party have won 3 seats each for 6 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.
