Former Captain Sunil Gavaskar felt India stands to lose in the upcoming world cup by boycotting Pakistan and he also added that India can instead continue to hurt them by shunning bilateral ties.
Calls for a total cricketing boycott against Pakistan led by former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has witnessed arise ever since the Pulwama attack last week took lives of 40 CRPF soldiers.
Team India are slated to play Pakistan during the world cup on June 16. Sunil Gavaskar told that it is not going to hurt Pakistan and that it is going to hurt them when they don’t play against India a bilateral series.
The former captain also added that it is only the Indian cricket team that is going to lose in a multi-country event by not playing against Pakistan. He also told that this matter needs to be looked at with more depth adding that he can understand emotions are running quite high.
Sunil Gavaskar also argued that India is not going to achieve anything by not playing them. He told that he knows team India are strong enough site for qualifying even after conceding those two points but suggested to beat them and make sure that Pakistan doesn’t qualify.
Sunil Gavaskar told that if the matter is taken to the ICC by the BCCI and goes ahead seeking Pakistan’s ouster from the event that is scheduled to start from May 13 in England, it is expected to lose.
