From Hollywood to Bollywood, ‘casting couch’ in films is the bitter reality of industry which often creates news. In the showbiz industry, incidences have been revealed of powerful film producers or directors pushing for sex with aspiring actresses or actors in order to land them roles in a movie.
Most of the times the vulnerable young stars are made to feel that if they refused it would be detrimental to their career, and complying would give them a “leg-up” in the industry.
Several actresses have given horrifying casting couch stories that show Hollywood is still rife with sexual harassment.
Recently, actress and former ‘Miss World’ Priyanka Chopra admitted that she faced sexual harassment in the past while speaking at the Women in the World Summit 2019. When Priyanka Chopra was asked if she ever faced sexual harassment, she raised her hand and said, ‘everybody in this room has probably faced one because it had become a norm with women’.
While she didn’t disclose much about her experience, Priyanka said that now, with the onset of #MeToo movement, women are no longer scared to share their ordeal and support each other. She said, ‘Now, if I have a story, I don’t feel I’m alone anymore – and I’m not ashamed of it.’
