Hina Jaiswal becomes the first Indian woman Flight Engineer

It’s a dream come true for Hina Jaiswal, the Flight Lieutenant from Chandigarh as she becomes the first Indian Woman Flight Engineer.

Hina Jaiswal was commissioned in the IAF’s engineering branch in 2015 and completed the 6-month Flight Engineer course from the 112 Helicopter Unit attached to the Air Force Station in Yelahanka, Bengaluru. The Flight Engineer branch was opened to women officers in 2018.

A Flight Engineer is the member of an aircraft’s flight crew who monitors and operates its complex aircraft systems requiring a specialized skill set.

Until last year, the Flight Engineer branch was exclusively the men’s domain.
