The civil services examination results were announced by the UPSC on Friday and an IIT-Bombay graduate Kanishak Kataria has topped the exam, making this the second time in 4 years of a Dalit student topping in one of the most intensively competitive examinations of the country with Tina dabi topping the exam in the year 2015. Engineering graduate from IIT-Guwahati Akshat Jain achieved the second rank, while Junaid Ahmed of Residential Coaching Academy, Jamia Millia Islamia achieved the third rank. Srushti Jayant Deshmukh happened to be the topper among women with AIR 5.
The top 25 candidates included 10 women and 15 men. This actually happens to be the first attempt for both condition Kanishak Kataria and Srushti Jayant Deshmukh. 777 men and 182 women: 759 candidates in all have been recommended for the appointment to various all India services like Indian administrative service and Indian police service. Kanishak Kataria, reacting on his achievement told that he was confident of making it to the top 100 list but AIR 1 came as a pleasant surprise to him. Kanishak Kataria’s father is also a bureaucrat.
