COURT’S VERDICT CHALLENGED BY NAWAZ SHARIF

Former prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif challenged the Islamabad high Court’s verdict that convicted him last week in a graft case regarding the ownership of a Saudi Arabian property on Tuesday.

In the Al-Azizia steel mill reference, Nawaz Sharif was awarded a 7-year jail term by the anti corruption court and is now serving his incarceration in Kot Lakhpat jail of Lahore.

Nawaz Sharif has also been disqualified by accountability Court from holding any public office for a span of 10 years. Nawaz Sharif told in his petition that the court’s decision was based on false interpretation of law and assumptions.

In his petition also stated that the evidence provided was misperceived and that the accountability Court made an announcement of the verdict without even hearing objections from the accused. The appeal actually seeks Nawaz Sharif release on bail and suspension of the sentence.
